World Cat 290DC Making Its Debut at World Cat Exhibit

Introducing a New Hull Design for a Smoother Ride
Catch a glimpse of World Cat’s new 290DC at the show! The latest addition to the World Cat fleet of power catamarans features a semi-displacement hull designed by renowned Naval Architect Robert A. Schofield. Engineered for the smoothest ride no matter what the conditions, and developed to be both a great fishing and family boat, the versatile 290DC ensures every outing is smooth, comfortable, and safe. From family cruises to offshore fishing expeditions, additional seating, an improved head, and new Euro transom transform this power catamaran into the ultimate offshore family fun boat.
Robert A. Schofield was instrumental in developing the original World Cat semi-displacement hull in 1998, and has now designed the new hull on the 290DC. “His innovative design for this model builds on the same patented Vectorflo® Air Cushion System that gives all World Cat boats their uniquely smooth ride and superior rough-water performance,” said Andrew Brown, president of World Cat. “The result is a model that’s even smoother and more fuel efficient.”
“We know that one common complaint with a monohull boat is the uncomfortably rough ride that comes along with it,” said Chris Brockway, vice president of product development. “We believe the demand for a superior ride has created a niche for our World Cat power catamarans that cut through rough seas with precision and glide effortlessly through the water, so that boaters can get back to enjoying their excursion without distractions caused by discomfort.”
In this style of boat, power catamarans have a tremendous advantage over similar length monohulls with the same beam. “Since power catamarans have a square bow rather than a pointy bow, there is about twice the bow space compared to a monohull of the same length and beam,” said Brockway.
New Family Friendly Amenities
“One of the many differences between our current 270 Sport Deck (270SD) and the new 290DC is the boat can easily convert between a fishing vessel and a family boat by adding or removing cushions to create more fishing space or seating,” said Andrew Brown. “This makes the 290DC a lot more versatile than most other boats in its class.” The power catamaran accommodates up to 12 people and includes a removable table, making the space perfect for guests to enjoy cocktails or card games while cruising along the bay. The 290DC enables passengers to easily board the power catamaran – or haul large fish onto the deck – with World Cat’s first Euro transom. Molded in toe rails and retractable aft seating across the transom create an expansive cockpit floor space for fighting fish or for an evening cruise. Families can prolong their excursions and enjoy the retreat on their World Cat, as the more spacious head with Corian countertops and a sink is available for passengers.
Enhanced Protection from the Elements
Boaters can confidently embark on outings on the opens seas of the Northeast with greater protection from the elements on the 290DC. The boat includes a dual windshield with windshield wipers and a center aisle. Two double helm seats on each side are protected behind the windshield, and with the optional custom canvas enclosure, six passengers – four facing forward and two facing aft – are completely protected. Without the need to turn back to shore when the going gets tough, boaters in regions with unpredictable weather can enjoy more worry-free time on the water and not at just the dock.
Additional New Features
Another styling design unique to the 290DC is the more accessible windlass is 12 inches farther back than on other World Cat models. The windlass setup includes its own anchor and rode locker that can be accessed by the deck floor. To impress the fishing enthusiast, the boat includes increased capacity fishing boxes with live wells and boxes integrated into the four-person helm seating area. Integrated hard top lighting ensures fishing and entertaining can extend well beyond sunset.
The 290DC hull is available in a selection of colors that are guaranteed to be noticed on the seas, including fighting lady yellow, Carolina blue, sapphire blue, and ruby red.
